SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST (SPECIALIST) – DIABLO RANGE DISTRICT / DISTRICT OFFICE / LIVERMORE, CA
The reporting location for this position is the Diablo Range District, District Office, 15751 Tesla Road, Livermore, CA. This position will work under direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory).This position independently identifies problems, develop courses of action, conducts critical sensitive scientific investigations/studies and may prepare guidance, policy, planning, or regulatory documents and legislative proposals on issues of importance and do other related work. Environmental compliance and natural resource protection is the primary responsibilities of this position. This position is responsible for the district’s natural resource management goals with a focus on the northern units such as Mount Diablo State Park, Benicia Capitol State Historic Park, Benicia State Recreation Area, and Brannan Island State Recreation Area. The job duties include the ability to perform a variety of manual labor work to restore and maintain State Park resources including revegetation, data collection and analysis, report writing, wildlife monitoring, soil disturbance monitoring, hydrologic site conditions assessment, exotic plant removal, and watershed management. As expected, this job requires working outdoors in inclement weather conditions, hiking over uneven and steep terrain, and carrying heavy loads. This position will include interacting with other agencies, manage crews, lead trainings and contribute to natural resource related projects. In addition, this position will lead workers in resource inventory work and GIS/GPS mapping.
This position is designated as NOT Telework Eligible.

Work environment may have moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, elevations, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. May involve some exposure to aggressive visitors. Occasional to frequent work outside of office. Work in a range of climatic environments from hot, dry deserts, coastal beaches, cool forests, and mountainous areas. May be exposed to extreme weather and traffic conditions. Operate and navigate 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, RUVs or motorcycles in remote park locations. Walking or hiking into remote areas of parks with a wide range of terrain. Travel is required throughout the district.
