Job Description

The ARA Transportation Infrastructure Division is seeking an entry-level engineer to work full-time for our office in Ventura, CA. This role is a great fit for someone who combines engineering fundamentals with hands-on mechanical skills and an interest in field work/travel.

Our Ventura team plays a national role in pavement and infrastructure solutions, from pavement condition surveys in cities across the West Coast to federal R&D efforts. Join a team where you can immediately make an impact!

What you will do as a junior engineer:

  • Pavement-related field testing, data collection, and evaluation. Anticipated to be on travel 50-65% of the time, depending on season and workload.
  • Setup, maintenance, repair, and calibration of pavement testing equipment.
  • Analysis of data and compilation of results.
  • Reporting of results using tools such as Microsoft Excel, GIS, and databases.
  • Assisting with reports and creating presentations discussing the results of analyses performed by yourself and others.

Flexibility is a requirement for this position, as work changes frequently.

Junior engineer requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (e.g., civil, electrical, mechanical) from an accredited U.S. institution
  • Excellent driving skills and willingness to drive pickup trucks and vans, sometimes with trailers; must be able to drive long distances and work in a vehicle for long periods of time
  • Ability to assist with and learn equipment mechanical and electrical repairs, calibrate equipment, and troubleshoot equipment issues
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical and meet other requirements to drive commercial motor vehicles (CMV) under 26,000lb GVWR (no CDL required)
  • Available and interested in travel to conduct field work, occasionally for weeks at a time
  • Ability and interest to grow in the role of “translator” between field staff and office-based engineering staff
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products

Compensation:
