Are you a recent nursing graduate, or nursing student eager to explore diverse specialties and build a strong clinical foundation? UPMC St. Margaret, a proud four-time ANCC Magnet designated hospital, is excited to offer a full-time Professional Staff Nurse position as part of our Acute Care Rotational Program at our Aspinwall, PA campus.

Why Join the Rotational Program?

This unique six-month experience allows new graduate nurses to rotate through six dynamic units, gaining exposure to a wide range of patient populations and clinical specialties:

• 3B – Progressive Care/Telemetry Step Down : Fast-paced, 34-bed unit for critically ill patients requiring cardiac monitoring.
• 4A – Acute Rehabilitation : 28-bed unit offering comprehensive rehab services for adult and geriatric patients.
• 4B – Orthopedics : 30-bed unit specializing in joint replacements, spinal, shoulder, and foot/ankle surgeries.
• 5A – Neurology/Oncology : 34-bed unit focused on stroke, cancer care, and palliative/hospice services.
• 5B – Renal/Respiratory : 33-bed unit caring for patients with CHF, COPD, and Peritoneal Dialysis needs.
• 6A – Surgical/Step-Down : 34-bed unit specializing in general, vascular, thoracic, ENT, GYN, urologic, and plastic surgeries.

Additionally, participants may gain observational experiences in ICU, ED, OR, PACU, and GI Lab. Please note these are observational only and not part of the formal rotation. Permanent placement in these areas is not available through this program.

Support Every Step of the Way

Each nurse in the program is paired with a dedicated mentor and receives guidance from experienced preceptors during each rotation. This collaborative environment fosters learning, confidence, and professional growth.

At the conclusion of the program, you’ll participate in a mutual matching process to select your preferred unit for permanent placement. While participating units reserve positions for rotational nurses, final placement is dependent on available openings at the time of selection. If you’re passionate about more than one specialty, our Dual Role Option allows you to split your time between two units, typically rotating every three weeks.

Work Schedule

Our nurses work rotating 12-hour shifts to ensure continuous patient care and support work-life balance.

What You’ll Receive

Note: UPMC School of Nursing students who receive Tuition Loan Forgiveness (TLF) are not eligible for the Monthly Loan Repayment Program.

The final candidate will be placed in the appropriate title and salary based on experience and education.
