Disaster Recovery Coordinator
(AACOG)
This is a responsible, non-supervisory position. The primary functions of the DRC position will be to oversee the development of the AACOG Disaster Recovery Program; Assist in the planning efforts among the most highly disaster impacted communities; Provide local technical planning capacity; Facilitate the implementation of locally generated disaster recovery projects.
The DRC will coordinate closely with ongoing Economic Development Administration (EDA) economic impact and recovery analysis teams to provide additional support to local entities in implementing recommended economic recovery projects and strategies; Coordinate closely with state and federal agencies as recovery plans are developed to assist local governments in prioritizing and implementing projects and programs; Aid in identifying grant eligible projects and work closely with the communities and government agencies to ensure local entities take full advantage of funding opportunities; Research private and nonprofit partnership opportunities as recovery needs are elevated through the planning process.
This position will act as a liaison among local, state, and federal partners to expedite the recovery process in impacted areas. Projects will include: 1) Direct assistance to impacted areas to include research, writing and administering grants; 2) Emergency Preparedness training; 3) Economic Resiliency planning; 4) Development of crisis communications plans; 5) Business Analysis Impact studies; 6) Participate in Emergency Management and Hazard Mitigation activities throughout the AACOG Region; 7) Coordinate responses to requests for emergency assistance and resources; 8) Conduct pre-disaster planning and mitigation activities; 9) Develop a disaster planning strategy for the Guadalupe and Medina River Watersheds. Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Degree/Job Experience: Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, business, or related field or Associate degree with two (2) years of experience related to disaster recovery, emergency preparedness, resiliency planning, and/or crisis management, or Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.
Minimum Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to sit for long periods of time while on the phone and/or computer, and while traveling to and from disaster impacted areas; and requires the ability to lift containers/boxes up to 50 pounds
This position is a Pay Grade 22, with a starting annual salary of $72,862.40. This is an exempt position and will be open until filled. Only electronic online applications will be accepted.
