Job Description

As a Custodian/Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and general upkeep of the parish campus. You will be responsible for maintaining church, classrooms and meeting spaces, supporting the needs of parishioners, staff, and visitors. Your work will help create a safe and welcoming environment for worship, learning, and community events.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform routine cleaning, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and disinfecting surfaces
• Collect and dispose of trash throughout the campus
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, and fixtures
• Maintain floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing
• Wash windows, walls, and light fixtures to keep spaces looking their best
• Restock restroom and cleaning supplies as needed
• Set up and break down rooms for parish events, including arranging tables, chairs, and equipment
• Keep outdoor areas clean, including sweeping walkways and clearing trash from entryways
• Report safety hazards and needed repairs to the Maintenance Director
• Lock and unlock doors and entry points as needed
• Observe for unauthorized access or unusual activity and report concerns
• Ensure that doors, windows, and security systems are properly secured after use
• Assist with moving equipment, unloading deliveries, and other operational tasks
• Maintain storage rooms and work carts in a clean and safe condition
• Assists with light maintenance and grounds upkeep as needed
• Support additional maintenance or janitorial tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Director

• Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, sanitation, and janitorial supplies
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks efficiently
• Strong attention to detail in maintaining campus cleanliness and organization
• Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Comfort working in various weather conditions for occasional outdoor maintenance
• Positive and service-oriented attitude when working with clergy, staff, volunteers, and parishioners
• Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for parish events
• Adherence to Safe Environment Training and diocesan guidelines for working in a parish setting
